SOLSTICES COMARI AND TAROTS

SOLSTICES COMARI AND TAROTS

itsIn recent days I have crossed various thoughts, starting from Gabriella‘s post on the Water of San Giovanni but also on the rite of fire to become comari, not in the sense that I had so far given to this word.

Therefore, water and fire.
Water and fire that according to Cicero “are not of more universal use than friendship.”
Water and fire, two of the four elements of life.

The water and the fire that the druids define Litha that is the light of the shore because the fire, or rather the sun, which has reached the zenith and has reached its maximum point, plunges into the waters, on the beach, at the meeting point between land and sea.

Of the summer solstice, which Alidada explained masterfully in her Uno spicchio di cielo, I fell in love many years ago reading Sarum by Edward Rutherfurd who, starting from the ice age, sees the birth of Stonehenge which in my imagination goes far beyond the status of “ringing rocks” for example, and is covered in mystery with that aftertaste of legend that I love.

But returning to Litha, I would like to resume a little the concept of Samhain: moment in which the veil between the two worlds is thinner, but moving the contrast between “above and below” just like a celebration of the opposite, which of course I love. It is no coincidence that Litha is also defined as a day out of time.

In this reversal, it is as if the elements of fire and water overturn their roles in a magical union.
A suggestive image representing this magic is realized in the floating candles.

Fire, water.
Bonfire and dew.
Waves and fires.

This is how Shakespeare in his A Midsummer Night’s Dream describes the reply of a fairy:
Over hill, over dale,
Thorough bush, thorough brier,
Over park, over pale,
Thorough flood, thorough fire.
I do wander everywhere
Swifter than the moon’s sphere.
And I serve the fairy queen
To dew her orbs upon the green.

Fire, water.
Sun and moon.

And then I remembered the advice QueenFaee Studio gave me in the comments here where sun and moon draw inspiration from the Visconti Sforza tarot cards, just to point out the curious coincidences, and my connection with the land …

This short film by Garrone for Dior enchants like the magical floating of the stars under the marvelous vault of the Tuscan castle of Sammezzano which, exactly as if inverted upside down, leads them to float in the water of the fountain.

Maria Grazia Chiuri wanted to give a reinterpretation of the tarot cards by transporting them into a fairy-tale but also an artistic dimension, in which the precious embroideries and the refined textures of the fabrics give life to works of art: living paintings, which not only allow themselves to be observed, but drag on a journey in search of answers.

The first dress, among other things, struck me: leaves on lace, a sort of mixture of fashion and nature that not by chance I immediately found magical, and that made me think in particular of the tree in the photo under the title, with its dress of ivy, because Nature dresses wonderfully.

But perhaps my absolute favorite is Le Pendu.

At this point you will tell me “but what does all this have to do with it”

In reality, by crossing traditions, legends and fairytale atmospheres, I would like to interpret this summer as a series of cards that can offer a reading key that allows the re-appropriation of the magic of feeling aligned with the sun, ready to welcome the light.

And you?
What do you see or predict in your cards?
Water, fire, or what else?

PS: in the comments the Keep Calm version of Le Fou … or an upside-down creature who wants to be a comare, who is not silent like a cicada, who accumulates like an ant and who knows how to be heavy as a stone, but also loooong more “suspended” than Stonehenge laughing

CRUELLA: TEA AT REGENT’S PARK

CRUELLA: TEA AT REGENT’S PARK

You can find the professional review here on the Matavitatau blog, I would like to have a chat, this time it goes well with tea, indeed tea at Regent’s Park.

And in particular I would like to talk about the soundtrack that I found fitting and that as far as I am concerned has absolutely underlined the whole vision giving an indisputable added value.

The original part was edited by Nicholas Britell. Jamie Fisher in the New York Times reports an interview with Barry Jenkins who describes him in detail . The phrase that struck me is “… there’s a slight Willy Wonka vibe to Britell in his studio” and I would say this is a good thing.

But then there is a whole long “repertoire” of quotes that to define “noteworthy” is absolutely reductive.

Time of the season: Estella arrives at the Liberty department stores, among other things some scenes were recorded in the real location

Feeling good by Nina Simone: Estella is happy because the Baroness liked her window and wants her to work for her.

The Baroness. Emma Thompson. In fact she is a lot like Miranda Priestly but I preferred Charlotte from The boat that rocked.

On first viewing: when Emma / Charlotte arrives on the ship, the WOW effect for me was far greater.

You will tell me: and what does it have to do with it? Nothing, in truth.
But I found common elements such as the music, the period, the swinging London… and it seemed much more “baroness” Charlotte, but you always correct me if I’m wrong.

Indeed, I let myself be corrected directly by her who declared: “oh, it’s some of the greatest track of all time.I mean, I arrive to the sound of The Doors … which I never arrived to any cooler soundtrack.”

Staying on the look theme, I wondered how the choice of Florence + The machine was born given that Florence Welch herself highlighted her affinities: “I was always interested in clothes and fashion seemed like this outlet for creativity, dressing up, for me, has always been a sort of self-actualizing of the inner spirit. I feel like it’s a way of getting to wear the soul of you outside of yourself.”

Florence also reveals that she uses clothes as a kind of “armor” to protect herself as her career expands. Just like Cruella uses fashion.

Another great woman who made fashion, but above all made history: Debbie Harry with One way or another in fact, as I have already written, I repeat that we should take a leaf.

Just as the concept of These boots are made for walking by Nancy Sinatra always holds true, perhaps obviously necessary, in a positive sense of course.

Less predictable, however, are I love Paris by Georgia Gibbs and Peraphs, peraphs, peraphs by Doris Day.

The version of Whole lotta love by Tina Turner and Ike fits well I would say.
Even if I have to listen to the original again: among other things, it was recently voted as the song containing the best guitar riff ever

And since we’re on the topic of rankings, I mention the Maneskin version of I wanna be your dog, keeping in mind that the BBC has published their “storming” in the English charts, which is a lot of stuff for how Italian music is generally considered.

I know, I’ve already gone a long way and haven’t even mentioned Stone Cold Crazy, Hush, or Sympathy for the devil. And I still would not have concluded, in fact it would take single dedicated posts because it is stronger than me: I don’t know how to be short laughing

It is true that it was said that this would be tea instead of the usual coffee, but I force myself to leave room for your comments because I am very curious to know your preferences, even if Cruella would say: “I’m just getting started, darling. .. “

STEPHEN KING: THE OUTSIDER

STEPHEN KING: THE OUTSIDER

It has been a long time since I sent the first book for this small bookcrossing project but between one thing and the other my times expand … laughing

I don’t know if you’ve already read the concept in about me page: I hope that it could be a good idea for you as well, if you can be interested in the book you find in the category, all you have to do is to let me know where to deliver it. I don’t ask anything in return for me, but I would suggest using the concept shown in the movie “Pay it forward”: I would like you to pass a favor on to someone else. Thanks.

As a second proposal I thought of Stephen King.
The Outsider.
The book is in Italian language.

I make a premise: HBO has produced a series.

and to stay in my way of doing things backwards, even though this was unintentional again, I saw the series first.

So one would think: a ruined book, already knowing the story… and instead I liked it a lot.

It goes without saying that in general I like Stephen King’s books, but I’m really glad I read it, if only to discover the real Holly Gibney.

In this regard, I find the coincidence singular because exactly like Abra in Doctor Sleep, the movie version of Holly also left me perplexed: both too different from how the author thought them.

For this reason I am happy to have met the Holly Gibney of the book: a character particularly full of contradictions. Which is why I probably felt a certain affinity …

But the references to the reflections that arose after reading Doctor Sleep do not end there!

Incredibly, on page 270 I find the following part of the dialogue, and it is Holly who speaks: “I have seen Paths of Glory at least a dozen times. It is one of Kubrick’s best films. Much better looking than The Shining and Barry Lyndon in my opinion. On the other hand, he was a lot younger when he shot it. The way I see it, young artists are much more likely to take risks. “

What to say?
Stephen King: The Outsider… much more than a title.

I smiled to myself as I read imagining him devising this further way of reaffirming the concept I had already described here: “a beautiful car with no engine.”

Instead I hope that bookcrossing and passing a favor get started, what do you think?

IT’S TIME FOR ANOTHER POIROT POLL

IT’S TIME FOR ANOTHER POIROT POLL

Luckily it was reported to me in time and for this I thank you: otherwise I would have missed the vision of John Malkovich in the role of Hercule Poirot.

Have you seen it?
It aired on Paramount: a BBC Series from the original title ABC murders based on the homonymous book by Queen Agatha Christie.

The first major change is the removal of Captain Hastings in favor of the introduction of Inspector Crome played by none other than Rupert Grint.

But perhaps it is the references to Poirot’s past that result in a “truly unsettling” ending (I quote verbatim) that clash more than the character we have come to know through the books.

In reality the atmosphere itself is completely dark and in itself I like it.

The problem is that I didn’t feel like I was “seeing” an Agatha Christie mystery.

But I know very well that I am not sufficiently clear-headed and objective on the subject, so I ask you: what do you think?

To me, John Malkovich’s Poirot seemed folded in on itself, there is no famous pride of his Belgian being, there are no characteristic pince-nez nor the bearing that I have always imagined.

It is true that the expressions that John Malkovich manages to give are very suitable for this more intimate and humanly introspective dimension.

One thing is certain: the poll on the favorite Poirot should be re-launched, or not?

RED ELF

RED ELF

As a bad researcher, unfortunately I was unable to find a pearl that I wanted to show you: it came back to me hearing about the House of Gucci set everywhere.

Ridley Scott is filming in Italy between Gressoney, Milan and Como and rumors about the cast are going crazy, which boasts a remarkable roster of characters: Lady Gaga, Adam Driver, Al Pacino, Jared Leto and Jeremy Irons…

But I would like to focus on Patrizia Reggiani: reading that she was annoyed at not having been contacted by Lady Gaga, I immediately thought back to the interview during which I had got to know her in all her resolute personality.

November 13, 1993: one of Harem’s guests is Patrizia Reggiani and Catherine Spaak, with that touch of perfidy hidden under her smile, interviews her in particular about the separation.

Patrizia Reggiani tells how Maurizio Gucci noticed her at a party as a “red elf” because of her dress, and adds that she initially made him believe she was the daughter of a “truck driver” only to specify that her father had an important transport company.

I remember one of Catherine Spaak’s comments: “I would have continued to be the trucker’s daughter a little longer …”

But the crescendo comes when Spaak asks “has she already had a lot of money, the house here, the boat there … isn’t that enough?”

Answer: “Gucci assets have been rated xxx, what do you think?”

Well, obviously I don’t remember the figures or the details, but the response phrase and the tone of the “what do you think?” remained impressed on me as if I had heard them yesterday.

And I imagined them as a frame for the statements against those who will play her on the big screen.

I want to clarify, but promise me not to ban me for this, that I do not like Lady Gaga … well, I said it.
I am talking about the singer, because I have not seen A star is born and therefore I do not comment on acting, which, moreover, has been praised by everyone.

But meeting the person to be interpreted is not the rule.
Do you remember examples of this?

The vision of the film will give us the arduous sentence …

Speaking of visions, in case you, who don’t have all my springs, have never seen Harem, I suggest you recover some excerpts: at the time the interviews with Catherine Spaak gave various goodies, making people known a little more in detail a variegated parterre of characters.

Find a selection here

If, on the other hand, you want to get a personal idea of Patrizia Reggiani, you can review the interview with our lady Franca Leosini for Storie Maledette.

And, just in case, as always: correct me if I’m wrong.

DINY DANCING

DINY DANCING

I challenge anyone not to view the Dirty Dancing images as soon as The Contours’ Do you love me notes start.

Well, after seeing the Boston Dynamics video, for me the record is officially surpassed: I will never be able to forget these dancing robots

Don’t you find them absolutely engaging? Admit it: it is impossible to stand still.

We are not talking about computer graphics, so congratulations to the programmers: the couple of Atlas together with Spot and Handle move according to an inter-coordinated programming and to the beat of music.

Music that is certainly not a random choice … the text in fact speaks clearly:

🎶 You broke my heart

‘Cause I couldn’t dance

You didn’t even want me around

And now I’m back

To let you know

I can really shake ’em down

🎶

Do you love me?

(I can really move)

Do you love me?

(I’m in the groove)

Now do you love me?

(Do you love me)

Now that I can dance

(Dance) 🎶

So what about these Diny Dancers?

🎶

Tell me

Tell me 🎶
