LOST

LOST

Lost is an entirely unreleased track that anticipates the planned April release of the 20th anniversary celebration edition of Meteora.

2003: after Hybrid Theory, Linkin Park unveils Meteora and still do not know that their work will not be a meteor and will consecrate them to music history.

On Linkin Park’s website you can find these words

congratulations on solving all our puzzles and welcome to our warehouse

As you know I love puzzles

I don’t know if in the days during which the countdown appeared before the release of Lost you also tried to solve: clicking on the CD case a word game to guess appeared.

Cute, right?

Overall Lost was really a surprise, and honestly hearing Chester Bennington‘s voice in a totally unreleased track triggered a number of seesaw thoughts for me.

Among other things, the lyrics are particularly striking:

a scar somewhere down inside of me
Something I can not repair ...

I’m trapped in yesterday
Where the pain is all I know

… I’m lost in these memories …

But then, considering the official tweet set on the profile, I agreed to consider Lost as a “time capsule.”

In a less metaphorical sense, now the term time capsule is used to refer to an external hard drive for wireless storage, but it also remains the classic “time capsule” we are used to seeing in American movies and beyond.

For example, there is a capsule in the Well Room of the Torre Ghirlandina at the Civic Museum of Modena, which in this video tells us various interesting facts about it

What would you like to put in a time capsule?

According to the International Time Capsule Society there would be more than 10 thousand time capsules in the world. Only one in a thousand is found.

On Focus you can see a gallery with the nine most wanted capsules in the world.

They are lost

Linkin Park, however, made us find their time, their sense, and they put Anime in it.

Anime アニメ as Kasabake explains on the blog As Circles in the Water comes from “animēshon,” Japanese transliteration of the English word “animation.”

Unfortunately I have huge gaps in the subject, although I find the word Anime poetic and intense, maybe you would like to add something about this wonderful subject?

In the meantime, enjoy your viewing and listening

In an interview Mike Shinoda stated that Lost was not included on the Meteora album because of the sound being too similar to Numb.

What do you think?

TWELVE NOTES

TWELVE NOTES

He says it is basically twelve notes: twelve notes that encapsulate everything.

That may be true, but without detracting from the music, it is the words that make the real difference.

So many words, a lifetime long.

Words that tell stories, words that describe emotions, words that stop moments, his, mine, ours.

Who doesn’t know the famous “outdoor café tables”!

Not to mention the guy who “carefully reads the instructions on the coffee machine” …

And again:

A hair-raising coffee
a packet of smoke
and the wind re-reading my paper
and tomorrow going out again, putting on a cheerful face
for the next carnival
a razor-cold pain
for another day that dawns
I die

Really coffee can make your hair stand on end.

A phosphorescent madonnina
and fake flowers above the dresser
looking for pantyhose distracted and indolent
and one more day in the mirror
the refrigerator snored from the kitchen
and you hummed making coffee
the long sadness of the morning

Do you hum when you make coffee?

A bustle of voices and faces the color of the streets outside
that loses some haste among the coffees and liquors
if your heart had windows I could jump in them
and have you find it all in pieces when you returned

I absolutely love the concept of “losing haste” with coffee!

And never again the chimneys
the sirens the city
the wet gates and warehouses
of mist and humidity …
and never again sit in the cafeteria
among melancholy and mashed potato
the chain the tape the days that go away
with the coffee cart ...

I could almost say it’s the Lomellina

Nights in the car talking
the low glass for smoking
nights of old songs still good to sing
nights as dark as an oven
sleepless nights before a great day
hard nights of illusions
long dark nights of coffee

Old songs still good to sing … it really is.

Songs I would say more lived than old, songs to sing together, during a concert.

Twelve notes were the birthday gift from my brother.

By a curious chance the number twelve recurs, he would surely make a pun of it.

1899

1899

1899 is an eight-episode series, or rather, it is “a short journey” as described in the bio, created by Jantje Friese & Baran bo Odar for Netflix.

Short journey because, as communicated by the authors themselves, the series stops at the end of the first season, although two more were planned, as for Dark

Dark is referred to because the authors of 1899 are: Jantje Friese & Baran bo Odar, whose profiles by the way are currently non-existent …

On my opionion this series is definitely ICONIC at first because of this book:

May your coffee kick in before reality does.

Perfect.

AlsoI had one of those musically satisfying moments at the end of the first episode.

A surprise that was repeated in the concept, with different expressions though for each episode.

If you have already seen the series, we can talk about it in the comments: did you recognize each time?

The theme song then is a cover in the fitting interpretation of Eliot Sumner … last name that will surely ring a bell, right?

Also ça va sans dire: again the quotes and references chase each other, so much so that I encountered one of the themes I am particularly fond of,  in addition to the clues related to computer binary codes.

One of these coincides with a scene that I loved: cups raised in unison!!

Did you notice the glitch at this juncture?

So three things I am partial to, yet amazingly there is another one!

Triangles … that’s all I’ll add.

REBEL REBEL

REBEL REBEL

Rebel Rebel is the picture disc I received as a gift from Elisa Mirko and Diego.

Elisa had already given me the Oh bej oh bej pictures as a gift.

Mirko had already given me the logo as a gift.

They both love David Bowie, as I do and as a large large percentage of humanity does, I think.

These days mark two dates, of which I like to remember more the first: his birthday.

David Bowie made history, and I won’t add “of music” because The White Duke is forever art, genius, style and communication that never stopped obliterating barriers.

Some have referred to Rebel Rebel as the anthem of glam, but I believe its unmistakable riff has the power to immediately captivate anyone who listen to it.

Polly also agrees.

Instead, this is the version at Live Aid at Wembley Stadium, London, on July 13, 1985.

Yes, I know, I always take you back to the 1980s, Rebel Rebel however is part of the 1974 album Diamond Dogs and at that time I was still unaware of it.

The image on the picture disc is part of the cover of Diamond Dogs signed by Guy Peellaert on the MoMA website the full version censored by RCA.

The album is steeped in references to George Orwell’s 1984.

Paradoxically, if you will, to look through the lens, I point you to this exhibition at the State Archives in Turin

America Dreams Rights show David Bowie on the U.S. tour promoting Diamond Dogs through Steve Shapiro’s shots.

It is very sad to think that almost fifty years have passed and yet we have not made much progress in terms of rights, or even in terms of dreams.

May be we are not Rebels enough, aren’t we?

TRIBUTE TO CARLY SIMON

TRIBUTE TO CARLY SIMON

The 37th annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony was held Nov. 5 at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, California.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation for the Performers category honored:

Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo

Duran Duran

Eminem

Eurythmics <3

Dolly Parton

Lionel Richie

Carly Simon

However, Carly Simon did not participate because she was tried by the loss of her two older sisters within a day of each other.

We all know well how fate can be mocking, and how life gives and takes away, abruptly and arbitrarily.

Joanna Simon passed away on October 19, Lucy Simon on the 20th, both due to cancer.

During the ceremony, it was therefore Olivia Rodrigo who sang You’re so vain.

Not without trailing controversy from Alanis Morissette who forfeited.

What do you think about?

Still, there are many interpretations of what is among the most famous songs of all time.

I also like Kate Hudson, after all, it could only be so since I admire both of her parents.

What about David?

Also here on the blog you will find a dedication: “I had some dreams, they were clouds in my coffee

It should definitely be remembered, however, that Carly is also much much more.

For example, it is impossible not to find her Let the river run in loop in your head each time you watch the movie Working Girl.

Or it is impossible not to sing Coming around again from Heartburn with Meryl

YOU MAKE ME FEEL LIKE IT’S HALLOWEEN

YOU MAKE ME FEEL LIKE IT’S HALLOWEEN

You make me feel like it’s Halloween the first time I heard this electronic gothic track by Muse I thought it could be a compliment. Cool!

However, this song lyrics are about feeling trapped.

Thinking of a situation with no way out, do you find yourself imagining horror movie scenarios?

Muse certainly played with this concept.

Tribute or parody?

The video was edited by Jesse Lee Stout: Muse Creative Director for Metaform Studio, direction is by Tom Teller.

Among so many references, do you want to mention some?

There are several interpretations of You make me feel like it’s Halloween, mainly originated by the final phrase: but you are the caretaker.

In an interview Matt Bellamy jokingly stated that there were too many songs about Christmas and it was time for someone to celebrate some other holiday, like Halloween for example.

What do you think about?

Over these twenty years undoubtedly Muse with their hits accustomed us to different kind of emotions.

I have always been impressed first and foremost by the powerful charge that Matthew Bellamy & Co. manage to exude, but also by their trademark flair combined with a completely unique genre that initially made it complicated to include them into a defined musical genre.

What is your favorite among their songs?

I know, it’s not easy to choose, I can’t rank them, although I have a special connection with some in particular.

In light of this we can perhaps reconsider You make me feel like it’s Halloween more for the message than the horror quotes, would you agree?

On October 26 Muse will be at Alcatraz in Milan great way to feel in the Hallooween mood.

How about you? When do you feel like it’s Halloween?
