THE CHILDREN’S TRAIN NETFLIX

THE CHILDREN’S TRAIN NETFLIX

We already talked about The Children’s Train when I read Viola Ardone’s book published by Einaudi

But above all, we talked about The Children’s Train when I read the book Happiness trains by Giovanni Rinaldi.

I became fond of Giovanni Rinaldi’s research work and his subsequent There was me on that train too and with words I travelled through the stories of many children, many families, many people who today still witness the beauty of solidarity through eyes that have seen the train of life run and through words that have much to teach us.

A discovery, a gift, which has brought us the privilege of the direct testimony of Americo Marino

Americo, not Amerigo, I am not mistaken: the real name of the man we knew as the protagonist of Einaudi or  The Children’s train Netflix, played by Christian Cervone and Stefano Accorsi is Americo

And if in some interviews Viola Ardone recognised Derna, Pachiochia or Maddalena as real characters, officially Americo remains a fictional character, despite the fact that significant elements such as his shoes, to name one, come from his direct testimony

This is why I could not miss seeing The Children’s train Netflix directed by Cristina Comencini and produced by Palomar.

The film was presented at the Rome Film Festival and has the support of the Emilia Romagna Region and Film Commission Torino Piemonte.

I sincerely hoped for a different epilogue with regard to the personal story of Americo, a person of rare sensitivity to whom I have grown fond of.

A thank you in the credits, a reference, a name, even coffee was mentioned.

How would you react if, we can say the whole world, given that The Children’s train has been translated into twenty-five languages, knew elements of your story, then declined in a different way?

Would you still be happy or would you suffer?

Have you seen The Children’s train Netflix?

If, like me, you are left with the thought of those children travelling to the unknown and how they found the affection of families who welcomed them as children, I think this video will move you, it is not fiction:

MY BAR, FAMILY, HEALTH

MY BAR, FAMILY, HEALTH

My bar, family, health … this is the recipe that Anna Possi gives us as an example of a centenarian.

Yes: tireless Anna in front of the espresso machine at the Bar Centrale in Nebbiuno on the occasion of her 100th birthday declared:

I don’t want anything, I already have everything. My bar, my family, my health, my brain is fine… What counts is being among people, loneliness hurts.

What can I say! First of all, many many good wishes also from Keep Calm & Drink Coffee and then sincere congratulations for the message that is certainly worth sharing.

Being among people

Do you agree with Anna?

Do you also think that being among people is what counts?

Or do you love solitude

My bar.

Can loving your job, or being able to turn your passion into a business, really be the essential component?

Health.

One more secret to longevity for Anna is to eat little.

I think I can say that we all agree, on the theory, of course on the practice … do you know how to moderate your meals

Between ‘my bar’ and ‘health’: family.

Il mio bar, la famiglia, la salute

Family:  a word that in a broad sense encompasses a universe, so varied and multifaceted that it cannot fit into a specific description.

It is no coincidence that countless quotations are striking in this regard:

I do think that families are the most beautiful things in all the world!
Louisa May Alcott

A happy family is, but an earlier heaven.
George Bernard Shaw

The family will last as long as man. It is the cradle of humanity.
Giuseppe Mazzini

Rejoice with your family in the beautiful land of life.
Albert Einstein

In family life, love is the oil that eases friction, the cement that binds closer together, and the music that brings harmony.
Friedrich Nietzsche

And in your opinion?

CITIES THAT READ THE MOST

CITIES THAT READ THE MOST

Which cities read the most

A ranking compiled annually by Amazon

Milan is in first place, but I am very proud that Pavia is in second place!

Second place but three books: between one coffee and another, it’s been a long time since I did any bookcrossing

In case you missed it, I’ll post the description here:
I hope that it could be a good idea for you as well: if you can be interested in the book you find in the category, all you have to do is to let me know where to deliver it. I don’t ask anything in return for me, but I would suggest using the concept shown in the movie “Pay it forward”: I would like you to pass a favor on to someone else. Thanks.

First book:

UN GIORNO SOLO by Felicia Yap Piemme Editions.

A Day Alone is all about the protagonist born from Felicia Yap’s pen, considered the publishing case of the year and praised by many leading international publications.

Second book:

STRONZE SI NASCE by Felicia Kingsley, Newton Compton Publishers.

Yes: same name. Felicia Kingsley however in this case is a pseudonym, the author’s real name is Serena Artioli. Her first novel, initially self-published, was so successful that it led her to this caustically titled novel.

Third book:

FESTA DI FAMIGLIA by Sveva Casati Modignani Edizioni Sperling & Kupfer.

The author doesn’t need to be introduced, but I will say of Family Feast that it is set in Milan.
The first chapter begins like this: It was the beginning of December.

In case you would like to read one of these books, you can send me an email or a private message on the social networking site of your choice.

Books are in Italian language.

Which cities read the most and then pay it forward?
We will find out together.

Enjoy your reading and THANK YOU in advance.

LET’S PRETEND THAT

LET’S PRETEND THAT

Summer: time for travel, craving for levity.

I propose a surreal quiz to laugh with each other.  Are you ready to imagine?

Let’s pretend that …

you are traveling with people who make you feel good, whether family or friends.

First question: where are you going?

You are chatting about the last movie you saw while you are driving, but you feel a little tired. You see a motorway café, you stop and say: “I need a coffee, I’ll be right back.”

Twenty minutes later you aren’t back yet, so whoever was with you comes in looking for you and what do they see?

You singing standing on the counter like the girls from Coyote Ugly

but this is Italy, there are no microphones in the motorway cafés and you are holding a Rustic sandwich with ham, tomato, mozzarella salad and mayonnaise.

Second question: what are you singing?

Since you have been discovered, you invite them to join you.

Assumption 1:
They catch up with you and start singing with you in the Top Gun style.

Assumption 2:
someone decides to bite the Rustic sandwich

Assumption 3:
they look at you dumbfounded and after the first moment when they are like salt statues they react by asking what the heck you are doing

Let’s pretend that …

you have to give an explanation: what happened after the coffee?

AND THEN WE WILL BE SAVED

AND THEN WE WILL BE SAVED

With E poi saremo salvi – And then we will be saved again I thank Monica and again I talk about the Strega Prize

And then we will be saved is the debut novel by Alessandra Carati, published by Mondadori, winner of the Opera prima Viareggio Rèpaci prize and among the top seven finalist books for the Strega 2022 prize.

Andrea Vitali, celebrated writer from Bellano, proposed and presented the book.

The salvation told by Alessandra Carati is sought because of the war in Bosnia through an escape to Italy, but the characteristic of this novel is precisely its ability to show how being safe does not mean being saved.

And one finds oneself reflecting on roots, or perhaps better said uprooting, and how there is no place in the world where one can escape from pain.

A pain that manifests itself in different ways is that it is the only true “arbiter.”

Alessandra tells us Aida’s story in episodes, sort of like when we remember “that time.”

And in between times, life flows.

And in between times the family changes, while remaining a fixed point, at times distant, like the land of her origin.

The reflection this reading leaves me with concerns the impossibility of leaving behind pain, whatever kind it may be.

We cannot prevent pain from being part of us; we can only choose how to live with it.

Salvation, then, in this book, reconnects with another Strega Prize winner, Tutto chiede salvezza – Everything asks for salvation, the book by Daniele Mencarelli.

There are indeed many kinds of salvation at different levels.

I find these words of Pablo Neruda emblematic:
If nothing saves us from death, at least love should save us from life.

However, I am also struck by these two basically similar interpretations:

Human salvation lies in the hands of the creatively maladjusted.
Martin Luther King

The only tool that can save my life is imagination.
Alejandro Jodorowsky

Did you feel saved when?
