HANOI TRAIN STREET

HANOI TRAIN STREET

Hanoi Train Street is something I discovered thanks to the TV showBeijing Express.

Unfortunately, I only ‘travel’ through others, thanks to the stories and images shared in several ways.

For this reason: images, I like Beijing Express.

Since it is broadcast on pay TV I have to wait for the free version, so only a week ago I happened to see Fru sitting at a table in a bar in Hanoi Vietnam for a coffee.

What could possibly be strange about that? It is true that I here celebrate the coffees of all those who give me the privilege of sharing, but why am I talking about a coffee seen on TV

This indeed wasn’t a coffee of the ones I like to call ‘calm.’

Train Street … the name leaves no mystery, but did you know that train tracks literally pass along a street in Hanoi just a short distance from buildings?

Hanoi Train Street

It was a discovery for me and so I couldn’t help but try to find out more.

The railway in Hanoi was built by the French in the early 1900s and buildings sprang up later in time.

In the second decade of the 2000s the narrow space between the tracks and the houses, also considering that the speed of the trains doesn’t particularly decrease as they pass through, became a tourist attraction growing to the point of being extremely dangerous.

The mania or perhaps we should say the urge to take pictures feverishly seizes many people and the Instagram wild created a risky as well as uncontrolled crowd.

This is why the authorities in 2022 closed access to tourists.

But you know: business is business.

Once upon a time, they used to say: ‘once the law is made, there’s always a loophole’ … so the buildings have been transformed into cafes that can safely accommodate visitors, with timetables and rules to follow.

So after telling you about The Happiness Trains we are now chatting about the Trains how? You tell me.

WIKIPEDIA When the Internet is a matter of life and death.

The Power of Knowledge kills the Knowledge of Power.

A sentence, a play on words, the key to a dream.

Aaron Swarzt’s dream, the dream of those who believe in freedom.

Pietro Ratto in his book Wikipedia When the Internet is a matter of life and death meticulously reconstructs the birth, history and evolution of the online encyclopaedia we all know.

Wikipedia content is added by voluntary users who contribute information that is shared as creative commons.

The idea was born from a dream, and is fuelled by a strong need for freedom.

Wikipedia’s aim is to spread knowledge and make it available to everyone, free of charge and universally.

The Power of Knowledge.

Can the Power of Knowledge really kill the Knowledge of Power?

Power is influence, power is domination.

How far can a dream be magnified?

Pietro Ratto’s valuable investigation reports on all the stages and, above all, all the stories of those who have been dreamers, those who have been creators and those who have been powerful …

The bibliography, or rather the sitography is extensive and very detailed.

In addition, every single link published in the book is available for consultation from the site of Pietro Ratto BoscoCeduo

I am particularly grateful for the opportunity to hear Aaron Swartz’s story, which should be shared out of a sense of justice but also of freedom

Here is a video from 2007 in which Aaron talks about network communication.

COFFEE IS A UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE THAT OVERCOMES CULTURAL BARRIERS

COFFEE IS A UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE THAT OVERCOMES CULTURAL BARRIERS

Coffee is a universal language that overcomes cultural barriers: a hot cup can unite people from every corner of the world.

I take the cue from this quote to confirm how coffee here has given me the opportunity to communicate with people living in areas hitherto unknown to me.

Tomislav keeps going on to update me about his project, remember I told you about his comics, but also about the photos of his coffees that he never fails to send me?

I am very grateful to him and thanks to him I discovered that in Temisvar there is a statue dedicated to Romulus and Remus.

These are his coffees!
Turkish coffee in Subotica and ‘morning coffee’ with candies from Macedonia as Tomislav called it.

Lela constantly teaches me about her Georgia, and through her love of Italy she uncovers many interesting crossovers, such as L’Antica Trattoria Toscana and Georgiana

What better combination than food?

Speaking of food, Lela described their cheese to me: Sulguni სულგუნი, სულუგუნი which comes from the Samegrelo region and is reminiscent of our mozzarella. Do you know it?

I believe that being able to chat about any subject and listen to life’s monents, interests, and those little things that simply make up the days is absolutely interesting and instructive.

The small differences, nuances, languages, traditions, environments, which are a heritage to be preserved and passed on.

Have you ever met, known, discovered people through the ‘bridge’ represented by coffee?

A hot cup can unite people from every corner of the world.

Life is a beautiful and endless journey in search of the perfect cup of coffee.

I take this fantastic quote to thank Tomislav  for taking up my invitation: I am always happy when you send me pictures of your coffee.

In this case Tomislav sent me a picture of his afternoon coffee, telling me that he had found a new cup that was smaller than the one he used to use.

And look how beautiful these vintage advertisements are too!

There’s a cappuccino radiating light just to represent a happy moment.

Happy as I am adding a new stage to the journey from mug to mug

I take this opportunity to show you a picture of what used to be my favourite cup before it broke.

What a sad fate when the objects we care most about break more easily than the things we care less about, isn’t it?

Am I the only walking disaster?

I remember the exact moment when I realised that the cup had slipped out of my hand … can you imagine the echo of my noooooooooooo?

Do you have a favourite cup in particular? And if so, have you managed to preserve it?

Tomislav replaced his cup with a new one, how long has your cup been with you? How many coffees have it seen?

So, considering the opening quote:
Life is a beautiful and endless journey in search of the perfect cup of coffee.

Did you completed the wonderful journey in search of the perfect cup of coffee?

PIAZZA DUCALE COVERED

PIAZZA DUCALE COVERED

I already told you about the Piazza Ducale in Vigevano: together we discovered the traces of Jewish presence, starting from the past to arrive at the present of the smart city version.

We saw it as a coffee lounge but also as a setting for cosplayers of Star Wars characters.

I wish you wouldn’t miss the Piazza Ducale “covered” version.

Suggestive, isn’t it?

Impressive.

At dawn

and sunset of a whole day dedicated to sharing.

These beautiful coloured blankets are all made of four knitted or crocheted squares joined together by a red thread as a symbol of relationship and union.

For months, many women worked to make these blankets with multicoloured wool and lots of imagination.

Some alone, like Betty during convalescence, some in groups, like Carola’s mother during the weekly meetings based on chatting, knitting and good things to eat.

And more blankets arrived from all over Italy, answering the call of Viva Vittoria

Viva Vittoria is a relational work shared by women for women.

Knitting is understood as a metaphor for self-development and conveys a message of awareness: we are the creators of our own existence.

If we are able to bring about change in ourselves, change can also take place in society as a reflection.

The idea of bringing these blankets from moments of aggregation was born in Brescia in 2015 and the proceeds of the sale are used for charitable purposes.

In Vigevano, three thousand blankets were adopted in Piazza Ducale in a few hours, the sum collected will be donated to the association Kore alongside women victims of violence.
