Habitat: the natural environment in which an animal or plant usually lives.

Here, I was thinking that I would like to see a series like ‘animals in their habitat’ instead of The Animals in my zoo.

No doubt it is very important that children learn about animals, but why the zoo?

The advertisement says that the characters were developed by a team of pedagogues.

Now, I am nobody, but wouldn’t it be nice to teach the concept of habitat?

Besides, it would also be very useful for geography.
Do you think kids know geography properly?

Zoos are becoming facsimiles – or perhaps caricatures – of how animals once were in their natural habitat.

Going back to the series, have you ever collected editions in weekly or otherwise periodical issues?

Are you the patient type who likes to wait and see your collection grow slowly and progressively?

Or rather do you prefer to search independently from bookshop to bookshop for the volumes that interest you?

KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON EXPLAINED BY STUDENTS

PCTO or Pathways for Transversal Skills and Orientation.

Writing an article on the meaning of the expression “Keep Calm and Carry On” is the PCTO project assigned to the students of the 5R class of the “Manfredo Fanti” Liceo Scientifico of Carpi Modena’s area. 

This project is part of the Focus History initiative: Focus Academy, aimed at involving young people in the various stages of preparation of the magazine through webinars that the purpose of promoting not only scientific or historical dissemination, as in this case, but also the various phases before issue.

I would like to clarify that the class was divided into two groups and that the second group also worked on a very interesting topic: the story of Crazy Horse.

My compliments go to all the students.

It goes without saying that I was struck by the subject of these works, so I contacted the Headmaster Professor Alda Barbi to know the origin, but the assignment came directly from the editorial staff of Focus History.

The Focus press office was equally kind but we can perhaps think that there is no specific reason.

And I would say that this is precisely the beauty: there is always a good reason to say “keep calm” don’t you think?

All this made me think back to the glorious days of school, when we still called these activities simply “research.”

Is there a research that has particularly impressed you? What memories do you have of school?

The first research carried out in elementary school often comes to my mind for two reasons.

The first concerns the precise memory I have of my mother as she searches for newspapers so that I can find the images to cut out.

Yes: it was a cardboard billboard with glued cutouts.

If we think about what can be done with images now it really seems prehistoric.

The second reason is the topic chosen by the teacher Virginia, whom I admire and still respect today: foreign words that have come into common use.

Today they are no longer counted: now our language is made up of constant and continuous contamination.

But in search of foreign words I somehow got tied up, and I never stopped trying to learn them.

Who knows if even for some of the students of the Fanti high school this work will mark a turning point, or will represent the first of a long series of steps in the journey of life.

Keep Calm and Go Volunteering! 

In this case keep calm is not for the coffee but for an interesting as well as admirable volunteer project.

The general objective is to sensitize young people to the adoption of sustainable and responsible lifestyles, in contrast to the increasingly widespread “culture of waste” and disposable use.

The active promoters are four young people from different backgrounds: Edisona Xhani from Albania, Sophie Anvroin from France, Hamudi Salama Batah from Spain and Mehdi Meddeb from Tunisia who are involved in sharing information and promoting initiatives by working in the fabric of the community to combat food waste.

Keep calm and go volunteering therefore consists of a European Solidarity Corps that is funded by the National Youth Agency and promoted by the Europe Area of the Belluno Committee of Understanding. 

In fact, on Sunday a flash mob took place in Belluno to involve more people with the aim of raising awareness the population.

And speaking of the fight against food waste, I suggest you follow Paola who through her book ll gusto di non sprecare, her blog Primo non sprecare for years has been diligently and deeply involved in the fight against waste.

It was nice to discover that many of us use coffee grounds, so I trust in just as many precious suggestions for food as well.

Now a few hours separate us from Christmas and the Advent calendar today gives us a triple surprise by the NAE blog: NewArtisticEcology. 

The author of the blog: Sabine Stuart De Chevalier has in fact created three different proposals, but before revealing them I would like to underline the intrinsic Art in her project born as a group that she cared as a garden and resulted in the dream of a world of outsiders who celebrate creativity away from glitter.

A lot of esteem.

Among other things, Sabine’s first contribution sees coffee as a key element and I am forced to warn: to abstain if you love bitter coffee … I’m joking!

The title is Delivery to Murder:

– Where are you going?
– Street.
– You just got here!
– Eh.
The pallor of the first light of dawn filtered, in polka dots, from the holes of the lowered shutter decorating the crumpled and piled up white cotton sheets … go on here. 

The second story is signed by Alessandro Gianesini entitled Christmas celebration:

It was already dark for a while, but organ sound came from the small church on the street corner, along with the voices of the choir, which was rehearsing Christmas songs.
Maurizio had finally decided his present for Rita: he eliminated almost all of the options, because none seemed to be the right one to impress her. The following day, after the celebration, he could find the perfect moment for his declaration… and he surely had no intention of showing up empty-handed… go on here. 

While reading I found myself back in time thinking of when we could not wait to exchange greetings after the Christmas celebration, and of how this exchange lasted a long time since the group of friends was large and huge. Good times!

Also for the third surprise I have a warning, but this time serious: listen with headphones!

That’s right: after drawings, poems and stories, today we have a song!

Sabine’s voice is so beautiful that it creates a suggestive atmosphere. I would have closed my eyes when the emotions came as light and magical as snowflakes, but I didn’t want to miss the images. Beautiful video.

Come on, talk! About an order or a peremptory invitation?
Changing the pitch can be both.
What if the request comes from a longtime friend and the tone is simply curious?

As happened to me when reading Giulia Caminito‘s book, also in this case I found a completely unconventional way of writing, even if I have not been conquered in the same way.

When Porci con le ali – Winged pigs came out, Lidia Ravera‘s debut book, I was still reading Mickey Mouse but the echo of the sensation generated remained impressed on me, as well as the post-1968 wave that brought with it an epochal change.

This book brings back to those years, however, in a slow and alternating way, more like an undertow that laps slowly.

And slowly one realizes that the story was built specifically as a system on a very specific foundation: the base, the true fulcrum of the whole story.

If on the one hand I was curious to deepen a page of Italian history of which I have never read, but which I have lived through news stories, on the other I found myself questioning my way of thinking.

Is the constant effort on myself to eliminate judgments and prejudices really effective?

And again: would I have had the same point of view if I hadn’t found myself in front of a perfect “grandmother”?

How often have we said then that it is not enough to give birth to be mothers, but if life offered a second chance?

I firmly believe that children and young people teach us constantly, and that they are saving.

The food for thought also ranges from the controversial question of knowing how to forgive oneself, to the survival instinct.
From the intrinsic power of silence to the benefits of music.
From consistency to hypocrisy.

All this is a portion of what emerged from the conversations with Monica: this time too I owe this reading to her, just as I owe to her the enrichment on a human level that I was able to draw from it.
