I will also be biased, you know by now, but don’t miss this Emporio Armani fashion show!
Once again the fashion week remains under the banner of phygital but King Giorgio gives us a trip to the fabulous 80s complete with tunnels and fluorescent paths!
I looked at everything with heartfelt eyes: the wide high-waisted trousers, the short jackets, the suspenders (do you remember the use also as a martingale?) And then the black velvet, the textured fabrics, the purple, the rows of buttons, white shirts, herringbone, padded shoulders …
My gray is inevitable in many variations, one more beautiful than the other! And I also loved the texture and warmth of the fabrics: something that can give a feeling of soft and snug fit, a cuddle, if you like.
Maybe even with a hint of athflow?
So here I am for the umpteenth time grateful for the show: beauty to see, but also beauty as a means of transport. Sure, you can’t travel in space, but you can travel in memories.
What about the 80s? Have you lived them? Did you love them?
Ah, Armani! He should get a Nobel Prize for Fashion.
It does not exist yet, but it should be created.
“What about the 80s? Have you lived them? Did you love them?”
Yes, I have lived them, I cannot say that I particularly liked them. There have been better times for me. I preferred the 70s, when I traveled for Lufthansa, that was an exciting period in my life.
Great idea Olivia!! Also in my opinion the Nobel Prize for fashion should be given to Giorgio Armani!
Oh the 70s! You’re right, those were great years too! For me they correspond to childhood, which was an absolutely happy period in my life.
I imagine your experience with Lufthansa has been rich and intense, I can’t even imagine how many trips you’ve made!
Thank you, Claudia.
I also cannot imagine (any more) on how many flights I worked. They were numerous, for sure.
Actually, I did not only fly for Lufthansa but for Pan American, too. I did not mention this airline because it does not exist any more. It went bankrupt, or rather, it fused with some other airline, I do not remember which one.
I flew for PanAm from 1973 to 1975, first stationed in London, then in Berlin.
Afterwards, I flew for Lufthansa from 1975 to 1978, stationed in Frankfurt.
It was an interlude between my university years and the teaching job, which I took up, in 1978.
Quite a contrast – those two lives!
I remember PanAm Olivia very well.
Although sadly I’ve only ever made one trip by plane in my entire life…don’t laugh.
Rather, I have total admiration for your life and for all the enormously rich and important baggage of experiences you’ve had: you know the world and you’ve done jobs that are a dream for me.
Have you ever thought about writing a biography?
I am not laughing. Some people never fly, not once in their lives. It is a matter of taste, of possibilities, of circumstances, I guess. Actually, I never dreamed of flying. It just happened, came “out of the blue (sky), so to speak.
As I was working at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich as a hostess, I met some girls flying for Panam. And they said, “Why don’t you fly with us? It is lots of fun”.
At that time I was doing my internship (Refendariat) at a German high school in Stuttgart. I did not like this city at all. They had transfered me from my university town of Heidelberg to this awful industrial city in southern Germany. I hated it! The job, the city, the people, the school, everything.
So I went from the Olympics directly to Miami for Panam training. Then I flew for five years around the world. It was a very carefree, happy time for me. Very good!
Yes, Claudia.
I will publish my “memoirs” in 2029, when I am 80, if I live that long …
Then I will certainly read them, even if I live long enough.
And I will surely be enchanted: already this little explanation of the part of life that brought you to PanAm is really fantastic! I love these things: destiny brought you to meet those girls, but it was your determination that made you make the decision to leave that place that you didn’t like and that didn’t bring anything positive into your life!
Chapeau Olivia!
Thank you, Claudia.
There are magic moments in life. That moment in Munich 1972 gave my life a new direction. It was truly magic.
This is something I have really dreamed of: a magical moment in life that turns out to be the gateway to improvement and a happy time.
I think in everyone’s life such turns are possible.
I think so too Olivia, and often these changes come when you least expect it.
How true! These changes are moments of a pleasant surprise.
